MELVINDALE 4, LINCOLN PARK 3 (8 INN)

Allen Park continued a late-season push by surviving a pitcher's duel against rival Melvindale and winning Division 1, District 15 championship on Monday. The win for the Jaguars marked their ninth in their last 11 games overall. Monday's contest was originally set for Saturday but storms came through the area it had to be postponed. Allen Park starting pitcher Caleb Wischow tossed a complete-game shutout. He struck out four batters and allowed four hits and four walks along the way. A pair of Melvindale hurlers in Rudy Ochoa and Harley Haddox combined to allow just one hit against Allen Park, a single by Mike Lareau in the sixth inning that eventually led to the only run of the game. Ochoa threw a scoreless first inning, issuing one free pass and picking up one strikeout. Haddox was on the bump for the final five innings and yielded the only knock for the Jags, punching out 10 but also walking five batters. One of those walks proved to be the difference in the game, however. After Lareau singled to lead off the inning, Alex Bastien walked to put runners at first and second with no outs. Lareau was forced out at third in the next at-bat on a fielder's choice, which moved Bastien up to second. After tagging up and advancing to third on a lineout, Bastien then scored on a wild pitch with two outs. Haddox, Ramon Lozoya, Rudy Ochoa, and Christon Ochoa each had a hit for Melvindale. Kelvin Lamoine reached base twice via a walk while Devin Williams and Philip Smith III were each issued one free pass. For Allen Park, Lareau, Bastien, and Nate Magier all earned a base on balls while Ethan Gajewski had three walks. Both Allen Park and Melvindale left six runners on base. Allen Park moved on to the regional semifinal round and will make the short trip back to Lincoln Park on Wednesday to play No. 1-ranked Woodhaven, who won the Temperance Bedford district final on Monday against the host Kicking Mules.
